I think there will be more people using the products, fewer overdoses, less violence, and taxes going to governments instead of money flowing into drug cartels, who use it to corrupt our civic institutions. This happened when alcohol was made legal. Why would it be different?

this is ignoring all the evidence and buying the head in ideaology. it takes a lot more drinking to become alcoholic and also alcohol doesnt cause OD. Whereas hard drugs will force addiction and OD.

More people OD on alcohol every year than all other drugs combined. Tobacco kills the most. There is no rhyme or reason why certain drugs are legal and others are not. It is mostly cultural, it has nothing to do with how dangerous they are.

In Amsterdam, they had an epidemic of heroin ODs in the 70s. They decriminalized usage, forced druggies into rehab, and if you failed rehab enough times you get free medical-grade heroin supplied by The State. Drug-related crime and ODs have dropped to almost zero.

AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands - On a quiet alley in east Amsterdam, a security guard stands watch outside a brick office building, which 75 men and women visit twice a day to smoke or shoot up government-funded heroin.

Public-health experts in the Netherlands say free distribution is one reason that drug-related deaths are far less common than in the United States. The program also has reduced crime and improved the quality of life for many users, according to Ellen van den Hoogen, who runs it.

Again what you want and what dutch did was 2 diff things. In Netherlands, its still illegal to produce and distribute drugs - in short dealing is illegal and has harsh punishment. But users are treated as health problem. I support gov to provide drugs but not cartels.
