We at YIMBY Denver pride ourselves in having a message that appeals to everyone, but it's sometimes important to tailor the message to the audience. So, here’s a cheat sheet for how to speak our most important phrase in various dialects, a 🧵!

Pro tip: When you totally seal a chamber and then try to fill it with water, the air is only going to compress so far before something stops working. Best case would have been "can't fill anymore" as the internal pressure hit the ~45PSI of the hose. This is what actually happened

Ah good, looks like Jer got to the “finding out” part thanks to Shelly

A letter posted on a workplace:
ATTENTION ALL SUBORDINATES:
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY,
CONVERSING ABOUT WAGES (BOTH ON
DUTY AND OFF DUTY) IS STRICTLY
FORBIDDEN.
This is considered proprietary information
and as such, it is protected legally. If you ane
overheard speaking (OR LISTENING TO!) a
conversation in which wages are discussed, you
will receive disciplinary action up to and
including termination.
As a reminder, Kentucky is an at-will state,
meaning your employment can be terminated
for any reason without legal percussion. Or NO
REASON.
Have any questions, ask Jer.
The response letter. It has a frame of links to the NLRB around the edges. The printed text reads as following and other names have been added, hand written, with their varying wages:

LETTER:
Yo Jer-Bear:
Seeing as you're a manager in the great illustrious word of Planet Fitness gym franchises,
it may behoove you to become familiar with the laws pertaining to it. Sprinkling legalese
and word-salad across an 8.5x11 paper you printed does not a legal doc make.
Since research ain't your forte, I've included a link to the pertinent documents on the left,
right, top, and bottom of this paper. Kinda hard to miss.
Needless to say, you can't legally tell us not to discuss wages in the good ol' U.S. of A.
We will continue to do so.
Futhermore, for the sake of making this a little more streamlined, shall we?

[list of names and pay rate follows, won’t all fit]

The rest of your "subordinates" could not be reached, but they're welcome to post their
wage above,
Love.
$10.50 an hour Shelly

There are many more photos of the build in progress and more detail in the project thread on the Swamp Things discord:

Algae likes it to be something like 80-90F (presumably depending on the species.) It goes dormant if it gets too cold and dies if it gets too hot. So both are things to avoid.

This build focused a lot on holding in heat because I hoped to put it out in the beginning of December when I would have a couple months of below freezing temps. That didn't happen, so I get to think about being too hot instead. :)

Argon is what double pane windows usually use. Krypton is about three times better and has a cooler name. I have no idea how to source either one, but when the time comes I'll sort it out.

I may end up using a noble gas with a lower-than-air thermal conductivity instead of a vacuum. It won't insulate as well, but at one atmosphere of pressure it also won't be all that excited about getting out, and won't put much strain on the seams.

The grow tube has a double wall and, in theory, can have a vacuum between them for insulation. I don't know if the acrylic is up to the task of holding a vacuum. Or if my seams are. That's something I hope to test.

The tube on the top and the box are transparent so the sunshine can get to the algae. The tubes on the bottom are evacuated solar tubes that will soak up sunshine and heat up the water inside them. In theory, convection will circulate the hot water from the bottom with the top.

This is how I spent my weekend. It is a prototype photobioreactor that I intend to use to run some algae growing experiments. Eventually I'd like to get this thing to be solar powered and automated so you put sunshine, growth medium, air, and water in, and get biomass out.

It's great that grocery stores have "solved" the disposable plastic bag problem by making the bags twice as thick and writing "re-usable" on them.

Some of these I can understand being wrong about. But 1/3 of the country lives in NYC, a 1/3 lives in Texas, and 1/3 lives in California? That math doesn't really work out.

Spent some time today printing parts for the next round of algae-growing experiments. Going to assemble these tomorrow when my well-ventilated area (aka the outdoors) is also well lit. More details in the Discord:

My Elden Ring experience: 1. Didn't jump either time because why would jumping off a cliff be a thing, and the first one was obviously someone trolling. 2. One-shot-killed by the first thing I met with no clue how to fight. 3. Guess this game isn't for me.
