A year ago both Democrat Commissioners, Geoffrey Starks and Jessica Rosenworcel were cheerleaders for 5.9 GHz, but because one Senator objects at the 11th hour they call for delay. This is bold leadership we can expect from the next FCC.

To protect this “incredibly valuable treasure,” the FCC created a massive 23 MHz guard band between operations & GPS signals, & mandated both a repair and replace protocol & a 24/7 operational stop buzzer to protect GPS devices. So...there’s that.

Time has come to fix 5.9 GHz! After 5 1/2 years since and my first blog & umpteen panels, speeches, op-eds, and more blogs — separately and jointly — Commission will open 45 MHz for unlicensed services in band. So pleased agreed to move on this.

For far too long this spectrum has been incredibly underused. The FCC’s actions in 5.9 GHz will increase density to our networks, create a more contiguous WiFi band, and add even more competition to the wireless market.

If today’s open meeting wasn’t enough good news for , the then announces that it is moving forward on its 5.9 GHz proposal. More innovative uses for spectrum to come from this FCC’s already stellar track record.
