Hard to understand why they would do that, almost voiding the original homage intent.
It's because the flog was intended to be an "omamori" for Iwata, or an amulet asking for a blessing. You don't open an omamori, or else you lose its benefits. When people found the Golf Iwata tribute, they "opened" the omamori. It's all about their culture.
