Also, big thanks to @JupyterCon for accepting my ultra-contrarian talk.

Newish to python and dislike notebooks. What IDE do you recommend for beginners?
-
I recommend VSCode for everyone
-
Even for an experienced vim user? I don't remember how much you've used vim in the past. I've been wondering if I should switch. But maybe this question is better asked in person, to avoid a twitter flame war...
-
Well, what I really meant is that I recommend it to people who ask me what editor to use. If you're happy using vim there's probably no reason to switch.
-
Have you used vim a lot? There are a few things that are really annoying me at the moment (setting up all of my stuff on a new machine / on macOS, slow /buggy autocomplete with YCM, ...), so I've been seriously considering trying VSCode.
-
I have never used vim, the one place where I suspect vim >> vscode is for editing things on remote servers -- there are various ways VSCode purports to support this, but I never managed to get them to work (but I didn't spend a lot of time trying)

Can I tempt you to do one on sharelatex?
-
I only spend maybe 5 hours writing latex a year (and I'm never the one who has to worry about styles or bibliographies or things like that) so sharelatex works great for me

Can you share it without having to login with a Google account?
-
I am surprised it requires that -- for instance, I am able to open it an in incognito window
-
but let me find another place to share it
-
Thank you

haha, just randomly stumbled upon this post on Jupyter notebooks and thought you might enjoy it (https://medium.com/netflix-techblog/scheduling-notebooks-348e6c14cfd6 …)": At Netflix we’ve put substantial effort into adopting notebooks as an integrated development platform."

-
yeah, Netflix gave like 5 [!] talks at JupyterCon, between them and me we had the whole spectrum of opinions covered

A++ on the Squidward aesthetic
-
I wish I could take more credit for it being a deliberate choice, but mostly it was the only animated gif I could find where people were throwing rotten tomatoes at someone on stage

Great presentation! I have a few questions about content which I’ll ask later, but just a question on the medium for now: what did you use to write your presentation? PS “enough rope to hang yourself” made me

-
it's just Google Slides
