No celebration until we get 80%+ at reading proficiency. (#CommitTo80) Respectfully, i already noted that we have a LOT of additional work to do. But there is a big difference being in a city with 39% vs 10%. Both are bad but we CAN get to 80% if we all work together.

NAEP proficient isnt the same as EOG grade level proficient. Top state in US is only 51% NAEP proficient. CMS is ~55% GLP in 3rd grade reading - near NC avg. (Both NAEP & NC EOG closely reflect poverty levels.) Schools fail too many kids, yes, but “61% failed” is bad use of data.
