I think we have to recognise that the UK’s history is, at best, problematic. It’s very nuanced. #Churchill led his country, yet he did have views on race that should make us all uncomfortable. He also quite loved the Empire and I think that caused more harm than good.

I’m not coming at this from what happened this morning. Our history is very much based on our heroism from the 2 WWs. Our past is much more than that. Much more chequered and complex. I just wished we were taught/ could talk about it more.

The British starved/killed millions of Indians so they could grow enough opium to successfully poison the Chinese for almost 100 years (30% of UK GDP = opium sales). Destroying the 2 largest populations (& economies) of the planet for financial gain/racism will not be forgotten.
