A god who requires the existence of a book in order to be known is useless.

I could only believe in a Christ who rejected every word and every comma in the New Testament and demanded that one worship through intuition alone.

In all fairness, the gods were around before any books came out about them. Jesus had been here and gone long before any gospel tracts began circulating (Paul's epistles predate the gospels). The New Testament was compiled four centuries after Christ's alleged appearance.
