It's my understanding that he believed in something like the Platonic eternal monad, right? A curious fascination of 18th century Germans.

He was more in harmony with the Upanishads. That particular essay is most fascinating, in my humble opinion, because he explains it in a more Westernized manner.

One can never read enough Schopenhauer. In the third volume of his The World as Will and Representation he gets into Vedic concepts, as well.
