Jesus was an pacifist yet Christians have been (and currently are) no less violent than non-Christians. Shouldn't this make us a little optimistic about Islam and its reform?

Jesus wasn't pacifist. He attacked the merchants in the temple and started trashing the place. It's mentioned in all four gospels of the New Testament.

does it say he specifically used violence? I thought it just says he drove them out. The turn the other cheek stuff seems always suggested to me he wouldn't have been throwing punches.

I guess it does say whip of chords. If he actually whipped people perhaps his non violence is a case of do as I say and not as I do
