It's not easy to break free. The Stockholm Syndrome-like hold the parents have over the child's psyche reaches deep into the subconscious realm, much deeper than merely recognizing it on an intellectual level.

That's a difficult topic. Most don't make these distinctions until much later in life, around middle age, or even later, if they ever recognize the trauma bond at all. The guilt and shame of "disrespecting" or "dishonoring" one's parents is formidable.
