If there was a god & he wanted to communicate to us & he does so by appearing to a few people in a desert in the Middle East & then several generations later they write some stories about it & it all happened 1000's of years ago, I mean... can't god communicate better than that?

it is too much of a task to consider all the various divine manifestations but it was not limited to some desert people. I don't even want to try to defend the past, I want to understand reality better. I been in communion with God for half my life and I still can't figure it out

I've spent time the last few years reading conventional theological explanations for these things. Their argumentation is quite sophisticated and often deductive based on their textual sources. Then there's the issue of belief embedded in a life world. Just side-food for thought.
