I wonder what percentage of people actually make a reasoned, well thought out decision to procreate, and what percentage are merely rationalizing and acting upon their innate biological urges?

Many of them see it as a necessary rite of passage to complete their family. It’s almost like a family is not a family without kids. I suppose part of it is social conditioning, the other is pressure + the rest is hope - they feel like they will win this bet they are gambling for

Technically, the definition of a family is one or more parents and their children living together as a unit. Aside from social pressure and biological impulse, I wonder what percentage of people actually use reasoning in deciding to procreate? I'm guessing not a large number.

True. I agree with you, I think only 5-10% of people who procreate think about it rationally. Even that estimate might be too high. It seems like it’s an impulsive decision that most people make without analysing it first.

I may be projecting my own expectations onto others, but, if someone carefully reasons the pros and cons of procreating another human being into this unstable and unsafe world we live in, and the potential of harm to the new person, they would probably decide against the idea.
