Even as children, we’re encouraged to do the right thing, but how could any of us possibly be expected to do that without first also knowing what the wrong thing is?

You know the "wrong thing" when they knock you half way across the room, and/or get in your face yelling and humiliating you and intimidating the fuck out of you. At least, that was my experience.

But that’s also the irony. Somehow, by hook or by crook, you have to learn what the “wrong thing” is (first) so you know not to do it.

Well, that's how ya learn. They are bigger than you, so, they beat you into submission by either physical or psychological bullying or both.
