Is it "All thoughts are alike the moans of a worm" or is it "All thoughts are like the moans of a worm"?

Actually it’s- “All thoughts seem moans of an earthworm trodden on by angels.”

...at least that’s how it is in the copy of “The Twilight of Thoughts” by Cioran that I read

"All thoughts seem moans of an earthworm" is kind of an awkward phrase but it's grammatically correct. It's an English translation, probably of French, so it could have several ways of translating it.

It is an awkward phrase, it felt awkward typing it just now like I was quoting it wrong
