Back in early 90s, I met Al Kooper at Bluebird Cafe in Nashville on a Monday night. It was 2am & he was wearing sunglasses. I asked how they got that weird sound on Highway 61 and he leaned over, took his glasses off & said "Ignorance is bliss, man".

He proceeded to tell me they had no idea what they were doing, everyone was out of tune and that he hates that album to this day lol

Kooper had never played a Hammond organ before in his life until that album. He wasn't even supposed to be on that album. He had snuck in some organ riffs when the producer had temporarily left the studio. Dylan liked his playing & the rest is history.

He does pretty damn good for an amateur! Typical Dylan to just say f*ck it n do just what he wanted.
Some of the lyrics on that album are genius, just poetry
