I don't think a lot of humans truly possess this foreknowledge, either, or they would not be adamantly breeding more victims for the meat grinder

Denial of death. It’s easy to get caught up with the business of surviving, maybe even thriving if enough things go right. I agree with you, it’s a combination of fantasy of an afterlife and the distractions of living.
