I can remember the first time I heard Janis Joplin sing. It was 1967. I was driving home at around 2am down San Vicente in Los Angeles, listening to AM Radio, and they played "Ball and Chain". It was so phenomenal I had to pull off to the side of the road.

You're older than me lol
Ball and Chain was 9 and a half minutes long. AM radio hardly played anything over 2 minutes long back in the '60s.
Are you sure you're not thinking of Joplin's Piece of my Heart single? Even that track was edited to fit AM radio

At 2 in the morning on my radio station in L.A., they would play really long tracks that were not edited... It was a miracle of AM radio in those days... I'm pretty sure it was "Ball and Chain"...but it's possible it was "Piece of my Heart"... It definitely was LONG, though...

LA must have been hipper than Ft Lauderdale. I was in a record store & saw the LP Cheap Thrills & I loved the cover art so much that I bought it. Turned out to be one of the greatest rock n roll albums in American history, also. lol
