When we talk about people who no longer exist, what are we referring to? There is no one there. They are just a thought in your head. What kind of madness is this? Where we commune with ghosts in our heads?

In lots of cultures, ranging from Siberia to Australia, there is a taboo on naming the dead. For example, the Aboriginal tribe of the Pitjantjatjara may not mention a person for several years after their death, depending on their status, and refer to them as “what’s his name.”
