The greatest happiness can only be achieved through the greatest gamble, in this case, to have a child is something that most people cherish immensely, but they can only experience that happiness, and give that happiness to another human being, by taking a gamble.

Gambling with another person's life for one's own personal amusement is about as arrogant and obnoxious as one can get
Genetics and environmental conditioning. Most have a predisposition to breed due to biological urges (DNA). But also many are groomed and trained that breeding & fostering a family is the proper thing to do. Consume, reproduce... such is the way of all flesh.
