Absolutely
"An Immense hatred keeps me alive... i would live for a thousand years if i were certain of seeing the whole world croak."
Louis-Ferdinand Céline
He was an asshole. He was also the greatest literary artist of the 20th century, not just my opinion, but, according to other great literary artists, such as Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, to name a few.
I know. There are some geniuses who ruined their reputation by being selectively callous to certain issues. Celine would have been a great icon but for this inexcusable blemish.
The "antisemitic" stuff he wrote was so outrageous even the Nazis rejected it. Hahaha. I think Celine was playing them. He was a character. I dont think he gave a fuck about being an icon. He really was the most hardcore pessimist ever.
