instead of wasting all that $ (& time) on holiday decorations (trying to have the most ostentatious display in the region), why not donate it to charity instead?

No. The more we light up our houses in pagan holiday celebration, the more coal we burn & the more coal we burn, the more we accelerate climate change & then the faster we can get this whole life on Earth thing over with.
