I think the Ambassador would enjoy reading Ligotti's "Conspiracy Against the Human Race".

Poe is right up Ligotti's alley. Ligotti is a horror writer. But he wrote a book, mentioned above, about all of the depressive geniuses who philosophized about antinatalism & other pessimistic genres. It's a good read. He has a dry wit & a way with words.
