Trump is trying to get them to demilitarize, to open up to the international community. To attack them at this time for human rights abuses would be counterproductive to attaining that goal. Besides, the US & UK have a long list of human rights abuses too.

I never said their respective human rights abuses were equivalent. But I know for a fact that the US hasn't even begun to own up to the holocaust that was inflicted upon the indigenous peoples of N. America. And the British Empire has massive abuses as well.

But my point was that it is like trying to negotiate a hostage situation. Trump is trying to get the kidnappers to drop the gun and talk. So, he's not going to start in with all the bad things the hostage takers have done.
