When I was still working at a daily newspaper, there were a couple of guys in the press room who were fans of the team I covered. Whenever I ran into them in the building, they would quote my stories to me as if they were telling me something I didn’t know.

How do you fix that? It's unreasonable to think that teams will act in the best interests of the league if it's against their best interests. Their job is to win games. Rule change? Equipment change? NBA and NFL are having these same talks right now, too, regarding style of play.

So fascinating that baseball is being played at levels far better than it ever has been before...and is suffering specifically due to that improvement.

The arbitrage of the revolving door of bull pen guys humming 97 four times a week, rendering them ineffective by the time the team loses cost control should be addressed by the MLBPA.
