Tony, stop focusing on free agency and focus on getting the young players paid. Teams are never going to pay for service time again. You have to move away from protecting the veterans and towards advocating for the youth.https://twitter.com/EricFisherSBG/status/1148612606292348931 …

MLBPA Exec Dir Tony Clark: "We are interested in restoring meaningful free agency." Union is beginning an unprecedented round of mid-term bargaining with the league. Uncertainty as to where those talks go.

Yes free agency is dead people are not paying for what players have already done

Why would a club spend big on an unproven young player? As you well know Baseball is a fickle game and future performance hard to predict

Young players aren't total wild cards. They've been scouted and tracked since their teenage years in most cases. You often have college production, production in your farm system, etc.

@joe_sheehan Yup. The market for veterans is actually limited by the fact that young player salaries are so constrained. Make young players more expensive and veterans become cost competitive in the labor market.

Amazing the MLBPA doesnt realize that getting younger players paid better is exactly what will drive interest back to veterans. Eliminate the well performing "cheap young player" and now teams dont have the substitute needed to avoid well performing veterans.

If not eliminate, at least change the equation a bit. Make it more expensive for teams to go through these long rebuilds.

Get players to FA based on their DOB so that there is no incentive to bury players in the minors.

This has been said ad nauseum to me, so I can damn near channel Manfred... the total % of player compensation to rev isn’t changing if management can help it. So, a shift means vets would see less. Tony, of course, wants both sides of the spectrum to grow salary.

If I were Tony, I would ask for the MLB service requirement (prior to F.A.) to be reduced from 6 years to 4.

I would also do away with option years. If you are on a MLB contract you can go down to AAA and be paid your salary. As teams are using more and more of the 40 man, should make the 40 man on MLB salaries regardless of where you are in the system
