Random thought on #gamedev hiring: I actually think a well written cover letter is quite important. I feel like there is a lot of attention spent how to write a good resume and not enough on how to write a good cover letter

Just based on my last several years being involved in the hiring process, I've honestly rarely read a cover letter. We're generally not given them and people rarely include them. Don't know that it'd sway me really. Did you feel this way as well outside of Valve? [1/2]

[2/2] Because with how particular I've heard hiring is with Valve, could see how it's valuable if applying with you all, to convey how much more well-rounded a person is versus just their respective discipline. Though yeah, mega assumption on my part.

Def for when we were hiring for Campo Santo. And I am not expecting everyone write a heartfelt essay, but so many read like they haven’t spent even 5min reading through your actual job post or know what your company even does

Hard disagree on that one! I personally think it’s essential, it says a lot about their reasons, motivation, personality, etc... not saying I wouldn’t hire someone without a cover letter, but it weighs quite a bit in their favour if they have a nice one.
