/8 This recent tweet by @MonsterclipRSPN and @videorespawn inspired to me to me to show some stuff off too! Ref is critical in solving some cool layout/shapes early on. Concept art is big bonus, but often ld's don't get fancy paint overs to work with till we've blocked things in

/8 When working on a csgo map back in 2016, I wanted to do something clean and modern, which at the time was a theme that was still fairly uncommon. Junction was a result of that: Based on Yuuyuan station in Shanghai, Chinapic.twitter.com/GQOvh3UgQi

/8 I also wanted players to be able to walk around on the subway tunnel leading to the station. Inspiration here came from many places, but I really liked the subway tunnels in the Division (which I was playing a lot of at the time) Of course these are based on NY subways.pic.twitter.com/xBN7OQi2ex

/8 There was also tons of ref from other games like BF4. Siege of shanghai was a very dope map that inspired a lot of the ground surface design for Junction. (I really liked those red flags adding color to the scene)pic.twitter.com/x1EDEPmyUF

/8 Another unique location at the time for a csgo map was a oilrig. Working on this, I discovered it's VERY hard to find oilrig pictures because it's actually illegal for employees to take them! I had to study stuff from afar or winged it as I wentpic.twitter.com/g7oVx9nHwg

/8 Oilrigs are also SUPER visually busy, so it was a interesting challenge to design a space that had iconic callout locations. They're typically a big mess of corridors and pipe work.pic.twitter.com/lELIO2dHE0

/8 Another old map (also fairly yellow) was Import. A vaguely located shipping dock on a Japan coast. I wanted to design a space that felt very "open" something at the time I felt csgo maps hadn't captured well; which was byproduct of how bsp makes you think about outdoor spacespic.twitter.com/lvJ5DjPSWf

/8 The space was also fairly organic in nature, using large crates for cover and flow. Elements like grafitti came in clutch for creating call outs. One spot near mid was literally called Tamale. Again BF4 ref was pretty clutch here too. I was in love with the game at the time.pic.twitter.com/rZi2fJL4y7

Bonus tweet: When I was working on Darksiders 3, one specific area was extremely inspired by the Trinity Church in New York. It was almost 1:1, never saw anyone mentioning how much it looked like the church online yet.pic.twitter.com/yodmuc6RUW

Wasn’t the first one set in NYC? Fair game haha
