self taught as well, no degree and only a highschool education. Hasnt hurt me in 12+ yrs in the industry, but thats all been in canada where i was born. so no need for a work visa. That’s where a degree can help, working abroad, but if you live in a gamedev hub, s’all good.
Degree helps, but is not a must either for work visas! Helps with the TN Visa for Canadians (but you can also make up the degree requirement with work years XP). I ended up getting an O-1 Visa here just based on how well awarded and sold games I worked on were + years work XP!

Yea exactly, now that i have 12 years experience i should be to get a visa if i went to work i in the states, but if i had zero professional experience it would be a no go for sure.
