My brother changed job/city during his green card process and had a couple of nasty surprises. That's the 'soft' lock: any mistake by anyone can mean trouble and delays for you or even a full reset of the process, and changes in your data mean more room for mistakes.

That. You need a lawyer to make sure you don't forget to dot any i's or cross any t's or you'll have to start the process from the beginning. Which means paying all the fees again. They generally give you one or two "requests for more information" first (or they did under O)
