Latest study in our series provides scientific evidence eating millets led to better growth in children by 26–39% when replacing rice with millets, in standard meals. A solution to help overcome malnutrition.

Here is every millet product I could find in New Zealand - puffed millet, grain (maybe proso-it never specifies; also sorghum: NZ$1/100g), crackers (<1% millet-why bother!) & weetbix (11% sorghum). The Indian shop was the only place with flour (finger millet). And that is all!

Aspire Circle released top investment opportunities in India in ag. I talked on fortification: varieties selected/bred for the highest nutrients; one-off investments can last forever and reach many. Food can be fortified with natural/artificial nutrients.

Led a discussion today how to accelerate scaling of proven technologies. World Veg. said the biggest hurdle for home gardens is that its not on the govts’ agenda. IFAD showed empowering women in agro-ecology had many benefits but awareness about the solution is low.

I was privileged to visit World Expo in Dubai. First priority was Oz, NZ & India pavilions-my 3 homes. Then UN, African Union, US etc. Use of digital technology and visuals was super impressive! Surprisingly rarely the messaging was clear or impactful - an opportunity missed!

Exciting new approaches by ag scientists. Many of us were able to contribute to the inclusive Forgotten Foods Manifesto launched in June at UNFSS. Yesterday we heard the progress made. Please see some of what I found exciting key actions.

A new model is being established by ag researchers – setting themselves up as catalysts to have farmer led innovations to build Forgotten Foods’ industries, and ensuring a powerful combination of indigenous knowledge and science.
Key elements of the ACTION PLAN were presented. Some interesting new approaches included:
-> The food system is developed for the major crops we consumer. So we need to create an economy for forgotten foods (FFs). Many FF are considered backward and many people want to eat ‘modern’ foods. This view needs to change. Typical supply chain may not work for FFs. Shorter supply chains are needed including the use of modern technologies to promote the FFs.
-> We need new forms of partnership. Scientists needs to know how to work in more productive way with indigenous communities. Farmers and indigenous people should be put at the center by being knowledge providers and agents for change.
-> Everyone agreed awareness raising is key but we have to start the work!
