    Stop calling the debt limit mess a "stalemate" or a "dilemma for Democrats." It's Republicans threatening to vote to drive the US into default. It's just that simple. Why isn't this basic fact being conveyed clearly and accurately to readers?

    Yes, and: 4. When Republicans filibuster, Republicans don't have any agency or responsibility for the end result. 5. When Republicans filibuster, the media must treat this as entirely a matter for Democrats to resolve.

    The Senate Republicans' position in a nutshell: 1. Congress must raise the debt ceiling. 2. Democrats must do this on their own. 3. Republicans won't let Democrats do this on their own.

    Couldn’t agree more. Taxing the rich will help us expand Medicare, extend childcare, take action on climate, and so much more. We have a precious opportunity right now in reconciliation with the Build Back Better Act, and we should use it.

    It’s time the super-wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share in taxes.

    As I say often: presence of disagreement & conflict is important — inevitable, often game changing. But, as below, that’s too often made to be synonymous with “backlash” (clearly strategically suicidal vs a silent majority). ESP. now, when ppl discuss politics of crime.

    Obviously California is a Special Place -- but the fact that a Democratic national star in waiting *faced* a recall and then had to fight hard for it midway through the campaign does say a lot about the potential challenges Democrats face across the map (4/)
