Both decisions appear sensible, but it’s hard to reconcile the Vargas decision with the Hampton case. Both charged at the officers after ignoring commands, one with a broken bottle vs knife (practical difference?). Unlike Vargas, Hampton had violently attacked the officer prior.

What concerns me is that Hampton incident was followed by significant community outrage, which may have influenced DA decision to file charges. But, the officers deserve EQUAL protection under the law. Seems unequal and subjective to me, based on the video evidence.
