We prosecute property crimes every day. For better or worse. And it's far more humane and less expensive to pay restitution than it is to send people to our failed, massively expensive and criminogenic prisons.https://twitter.com/bay_snark/status/1274737205299122178 …

So, tax payers just pick up the tab? Agree prison often overboard. But, how about community service as restitution?

Do you not understand the difference between the 'tab' for sending people to prison versus the 'tab' for property restitution? HUGE DIFFERENCE. I'd far rather see the money benefit the local community than those who prop up the injustice system.

Did you miss the part where I agreed about prison? My concern is the moral hazard if society is consistently paying to remedy crimes without any consequences for criminals. Think a few moves ahead on that one. It’s also weird when you guys pretend to care about costs.

I would agree w/u about lacking consequences for criminals. However, we would probably disagree on what we constitute as 'serious crime'. The real criminals are the corrupt people masquerading as our representatives while stealing our tax dollars.

I doubt we are too far off on serious crime. For broken window I’d just like to see window fixed and maybe a day picking up trash in the TL or a park or something like that. Agree. But, always wonder how many of the 2/3 eligibles who fail to vote are ones lamenting corrupt reps.
