Perhaps a great place for me to say that and I have received new funding for extensions on EEMS/MAPs and are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to work with us! Please spread the word, & enquire by email if interested!

An updated version of our ( and ) work on the factors affecting the performance of polygenic scores--beyond genetic ancestry—is accepted and now up [thread]

This is incorrect. Here's some recent lit on how & why existing PGS methods do not fully separate genetic from environmental effects on traits, particularly when comparing across populations.

A really daft paragraph. Imagine society discriminates against (say) short people. Then as height has a genetic basis, so will discrimination, and so discrimination will built into PGS of traits affected by discrimination.

"Measures of IQ...are...contaminated by environmental effects before birth and during infancy. Polygenic scores for IQ are free of that contamination." Yeah, definitely never seen a polygenic score contaminated by environmental effects before. I foresee no problems whatsoever.

With both GEDmatch and Family Tree DNA now both lining up to make $ from forensic genetic genealogy seems like they should be getting more questions about potential conflicts of interest

Great to see coverage of Brian Donovan’s work on genetics education and race — here’s a direct link to the pilot study that suggests this is a promising approach

After previous reporting on unfounded genetic explanations for racial disparities, I felt fairly despairing about how they would ever be dispelled. Then I attended this training for high school biology teachers.

Check it out! Oh, and we would like to give a shout-out to Darren Kessner, , and whose HARP software made this approach possible!

Super excited for this paper with to be out! In it, we try to think really hard about how close popgen methods & models can get to real biology: organisms just living, dispersing, mating, & dying in space. [summary below]

For this reason, it is of utmost importance for us to think carefully about implications of our work before, during, and after we do it. Science is not done in a vacuum, and genetics is _especially_ vulnerable to misuse and misinterpretation.
