    Introducing: Debbie the Database. I've been working on a little project in my free time to make some database concepts more approachable - I'd love to hear what you think and whether you'd like to see more content like this. Anyway - enjoy! 😊

    Comic that shows what a MongoDB cluster consists of. 1: Woman says I need a database for a project... Let me set one up on Atlas. 2: On a laptop you can see the Atlas page to set up a cluster. 3: Create Cluster is clicked. 4: In a data center a node is asking for three other nodes to volunteer for a database deployment. 5: The nodes decide who will be the primary for the cluster and who the secondaries. It is explained that these roles change. 6: The nodes connect and are told that the primaries job is to answer incoming requests. 7: As a secondary your job is to keep up to date with data changes and be ready to take over if needed. 8: The nodes are lead to Debbie the database who forms the concept of the database which is made up of the three nodes. 9+10: The nodes enter Debbie. 11: Back in the human world, the Atlas UI shows the new cluster 12: A user connects via the terminal

    In light of 's recent post, I wrote a bit about how she (among others) helped me appreciate that abuse and harassment is much more than a product "edge case", and why proactive investment in trust and safety is a necessity for any online platform.

    For the past month, I've experienced coordinated harassment via 4chan on one of my GitHub repos. Yes, the platform I work on. Doing much better after taking time off & getting support from my circle. 💜 I'm ready to share my experience, so here it is:

    there are 10s of tweets of Slack telling people that they do not care about community usecases, on this very site. They do not care about moderation, they do not care about safety, they do not care about abuse, PLEASE STOP

    Slack is not a community tool. Stop using it it for such.
