I feel like I remember seeing someone on Twitter post a paper related to that point. Anyone know what that would be?

Musing for the day: Should we be doing power analyses based more on estimate precision than on significance? I tend to find a confidence interval like [-.02, .04] to be more informative than one like [.01, .70], despite the latter probably being significant and the former not.

For many, the 2016 election results were a surprise. But why? According to Profs. and , political data visualizations don't always account for uncertainty.

The moralization of effort: People evaluate those who put in more effort (even for same output) as more moral. & people donate more money to those who put in more effort for fundraisers (i.e., run further). The latest by & co:

Forthcoming : . We re-analyzed data of 7 published studies and conducted large-scale replications with original authors of the seminal study. Findings raise significant concerns about past use psychophysiology in political science and beyond [1/11]

Plot of a p-value, calculated for a simple t-test, for sample sizes of 10 to 2010, when the null hypothesis is true. Because p-values are uniformly distributed, the p-value just wanders randomly between 0 and 1. This is why repeatedly analyzing data as it comes in is not good!

I sincerely appreciate the idea of having a panel on how to attract conservative and religious scholars to academia. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend: I go to Church on Sunday mornings.

A new paper has been making the rounds with the intriguing claim that YouTube has a *de-radicalizing* influence. Having read the paper, I wanted to call it wrong, but that would give the paper too much credit, because it is not even wrong. Let me explain.

Really interesting-made me realize that having switched in from the natural sciences, something I *love* about the social sciences is that *every* conversation is a scholarly conversation. It's so exciting to be able to use the lens of what we study to understand our social world

I see Jesus is trending on twitter. You'd think it would be due to advent/Christmas, but, nah, of course not. Not in 2019.

This finding is so important. For decades psychologists have told people to remain objective in the “control” condition of empathy studies. It turns out our default is more like the “empathy” condition, and the unusual experience is to artificially *not* empathize!
