@signalapp explode in popularity recently. And it’s going to accelerate. As privacy concerns mount around other services, folks will make an effort to move to a service that truly respects users. Definitely why creating messaging apps for different verticals/niches/communities/geographic markets is the move. The general, all-purpose messaging app category has already been won by phone and OS defaults.

Couldn’t agree more. There always seems to be an assumption that everyone is trying to topple the giants. I think there’s room for niche plays that build around and care about supporting the unique needs of their communities.

tried with tribe. For a while I thought apps like Houseparty were the competition. In reality, people like iMessage and would always resort back to simplicity. -
