Would be interesting to see how this flows over to secondary marketplace listings after return windows.

Great thought — many people too lazy to return things & miss shippings windows. Perhaps we see that marketplace impact in Q2. I’m sure folks who work at eBay could easily answer this question based on historical seasonality data.

since many seem keen on climate; 1.9M packages returned causes the burning of a fair amount of c02. imagine amazon or a specific retailer having their own solar powered drone fleet that picks up the package/s and brings them back to a repository (a DOM center).
-
I’ve also seen the suggestion of “naked packaging” by Amazon to reduce number of boxes. They would put printing labels on manufacturer boxes rather than wrapping in an additional Amazon box.

25% Y/Y growth higher than eCommerce growth, but likely accounted for by Apparel category growing faster than US Ecom
-
Right — apparel is fastest growing “return category” and often because of sizing differences between brands. Tough one to solve for.

This is madness. I’ve never returned a package, at least not that I remember, but I know people who do it constantly. The generational breakdown is fascinating too. Gen Z double standard on climate & ethics shows too.

Also - maybe the high returns rate just reflects that we are all buying/gifting too much garbage that we don’t need? The plastic waste created alone is staggering.

in a world where we don’t get to touch the thing before we buy it, we are more likely to not want it
