@jmfd Thank you for looking that up.

@mjtsai even the iPad is 768 on its minor axis. Fun that Hype automatically throws autolayout exceptions at 720 (all autoresizingmask ones!) -
@jmfd What do you think the reason is? Cheaper panels at that resolution? Do they prefer a lower DPI? - View other replies
-
@mjtsai I doubt they prefer a lower DPI because the previous non-retina MBPs were higher logical DPI than the Retina ones. - View other replies

@mjtsai cost makes sense, but maybe also power consumption (more pixels + more graphics perf needed)? No clue, seems like a compromise. -
@jmfd Power seems unlikely to me given the relatively small difference between 720 and 768. -
@mjtsai if they used the iPad Air's 264ppi, the resolution would be ~1343x840. I don't know how much that'd come into play. -
@mjtsai I find rewatching the 2008 intro of the macbook air to be interesting.pic.twitter.com/iDIOirVhcW

@jmfd Is the default scaling 2x? That would surprise me. I assume non-integer scaling like iPhone 6+. -
-
@jmfd I run my 15" rMBP at lower than 2x, and it looks great. I've never noticed aliasing, fuzzy text, etc. I haven't looked too closely TBH -
@knardi Pretty obviously noticeably imho and also worse performance. I run laptops scaled by my retina iMac at default.
