Cochran’s lawyer seems to have struck a chord. He was talking about whether “general deterrence” actually works. But many seem to think his client deserves prison on another, less formal factor: General principle.

Kind of like how over 2/3 of those up on gun charges are out within a day in Cook County! Why hold & prosecute, let’s let them out and it will all go away! Using the Dont ask, don’t get approach way to prevalent in Chi !

Excuse me. You aren't talking about Public Defender clients, and they're the majority. They don't make bail. Also, crime has gone down quite a bit in the last two years but no one cares b/c we'll never lose our label. Do real research.
