Gotta read this again when I’m not tired... :-)

When I hear about the US Democratic primaries, this is what pops into my head every time: It’s particularly applicable now that “to caucas for” seems to be an accepted verb form. :-)

This is good! This is close to what I consider actual science reporting! If only the people who are typically hired as journalists and sci-commers were this good, we’d live in a much more informed and balanced world.

Maybe I should just use a library like this? Perhaps I don't even need to fully understand how these things work (for now...). :-)

I mean, you'd think I could just call `this.textContent` before calling `this.attachShadow`. But noo... that doesn't seem to work (AFAICT). :-)

Starting to regret my JS choices already... :-) If I have a custom webcomponent tag, like: <web-mdc>text</web-mdc> How do I get the text 'text' out of it before I replace it with the shadow DOM? (I want the shadow DOM elements that are created to depend on 'text'.)

Worse... I’m quite enjoying it! :-) Especially the easy-to-follow cookbook stuff that’s *everywhere*. Documentation FTW! No doubt I’ll regret my choices later. :-)

I’m learning about Webpack and writing an autonomous WebComponent. Am I having a mid-life crisis? :-)

How do you develop an efficient parallel divide-and-conquer algorithm that works on trees (which can't be assumed to be balanced)? Join us this Thursday as we read a 09 paper which generalises the third homomorphism theorem from lists to trees.

If you've ever tried to test a stateful app in QuickCheck, Hedgehog or any other property-based testing library you'll know it can be seriously difficult! Check out this tutorial for a simple way to test stateful apps using Hedgehog.

In Australia, you can be paid MUCH less than this to teach a single subject. I did it for a few years and absolutely loved it (and other academic activities). Unfortunately, I had to eat, so I went to work for a bank instead. :-)

TFW you’re the only contributor to a file in git, and you know git is probably correct, but you have no memory of it AT ALL. :-)

This, and trying to refactor anything... :-) Oh, and this when some upstream JSON blob changes shape.

I'm not sure how many people appreciate just how much of a maintenance challenge Windows represents for many open-source projects. Before I started working on GHC I had assumed it was bad. However, now I know; no, it's much much worse.

Another relevant presentation for WASI (WebAssembly System Interface - a kind of stdlib concept for WebAssembly to interact with its host):

I like the vision of future servers running WASM: It would be like having web-shippable JARs. Not sure how all the details are going to work, but <shrug/>, I still hope it works out. :-)

You can use the Cloth Brush directly on meshes with millions of vertices by tweaking the simulation's limits and falloff. The solver ignores everything outside the limits and the cloth will automatically change its elasticity in the falloff area to avoid artifacts.

This cracks me up... :-) Required: “Solid publication record in top research conferences in relevant areas.” Desired: “Python.” If you really have a solid publication record in PL, AND you don’t know Python, it’s gonna be pretty trivial to pick up. Just sayin... :-)

I really like Picard so far, but its theme music is pretty bad. It just doesn’t have much of a melody; it’s more like a bland combination of random chords. Even Enterprise and Discovery were (very slightly) better. Some people apparently love it though...

Today’s reflection of society: you can earn 4x as much writing bad code for some backwater of the tech industry than you earn doing a PhD. Much, MUCH better job security too!
