After the Parkland shooting I saw a lot of tweets saying, "Raise your hand if you were bullied but never shot up a school" but after the Toronto attack I haven't seen any "Raise your hand if you have ever been lonely, rejected, and celibate but never murdered anyone" tweets.

This could very well be because I run in the wrong circles, or that for some reason whoever made these tweets didn't have the connections for them to go viral. But what I do know is that almost every single person's hand to go up.

Men, women, neither, both, straight, gay, bi, pan, young, old, single, married, none of the above, all of the above, we have all experienced this because there's never any guarantee of connection, companionship or sexual relationships. But most of us know this is NORMAL.

There's a billion other people talking about the nightmare that is incels, but I'd love to talk about the reality and normalizing it as totally ok. It's ok to not have sex until you're 40, it's ok even if you NEVER have sex. It's ok if you don't start dating until 30+. It's ok.

Throw out the bizarre unreality of romantic comedies, TV shows focusing on horny young nerd men who are casually but lovably misogynistic, and everything Christianity has to say about love, marriage and sex.

Share the stories you think are embarrassing with your friends but share them like you think they are normal and you may find they have similar stories... Because the only thing that's normal is we're always struggling with relationships and sex.

Frankly, being "incel" is pretty damn normal. What's *not* normal is reacting to it with the belief that everyone but you is having this non stop party sex life (particularly women) and you are owed what you think everyone else is getting. That's just not reality.

So people, share your stories, don't feel the need to pretend to save face, drop the pressure to always pretend your sex life is amazing and just be real. Sometimes your sex life IS great. But there's zero chance it's great 100% of the time. Make that *normal*, not shameful.

Love, a married woman who hasn't had a hell of a lot of sex lately, for a whole bunch of perfectly normal reasons that run the gamut of my disability to a religion's instilled shame and fear. Plus personal histories, trust, communication, holy crap people are complicated. 🤷
