Whether it's animals or children, yelling or other aversive tactics may get you what you want IN THE MOMENT but if long term you actually want a healthy, happy relationship with a healthy, happy, well-adjusted living creature, don't rely on negative reinforcement in training.

Also, FYI, negative reinforcement never works on parrots, period. If you yell, they think it's yelling time. If you hurt or scare them, it breaks the fragile trust between a PREDATOR and PREY species relationship. Never forget that birds are a prey species and you are a predator.

FYI I'm not a pro and have used incorrect terminology. Here's a pro using the correct terminology! https://twitter.com/JoannaBergerMSc/status/1192504692506578951?s=19 …

I do shout at my dog though, but not in a telling off way - she likes to be loud so I do a shout and then she do a shout. When it's time to stop, I tell her it's time to stop, and she goes back to quiet play!

She do a shout

Omg. My dad used to yell & scream at the dog. Run his nose in poop. And sometimes be physically abusive. I’m so much older now. 42 year old me now would call animal control. 12 year old me was too terrified.

It's funny, because people seem to think I can't discipline my dog and are shocked by how well behaved she is. Like... Yes, she's well behaved, because I reward her for good behaviour. I'm not bad at disciplining, I'm just not an asshole.
