Think about those people, like me, who like to randomly select and unselect text on a page when browsing the web. I'm always suspicious of un-selectable text, apart from on Buttons etc. I'm not saying my behaviour is rational.

I do that too, but only for content. Never for app structure, which in an app is 80% of the DOM.

Quite contrary. I always hate when I am dealing with some app where I cannot select what I want. If you are in situation when you have to write how to do semthing in the app for someone and you have to re-type every sigle thing... Or cannost select error messages. Or ...

Did that once. The problem is that making error messages selectable is always forgotten.

Just remember to re-enable user-select for text inputs after that statement, I once broke http://messenger.com on Safari when I was an intern because the text input wasn't focusable, but only on Safari so I missed it when I was testing on Chrome
