I'd hide unlinked things under an Add button, and depending on what subset of the 2x2 state matrix makes sense, (e.g. does linked but not budgeted have value?), decide if I can get away with just one piece of state

This screen specifically is for choosing which accounts to link, doesn't make sense for initial screen to be empty. The most straight-forward thing to do is probably split it into two steps.

split into two steps 1) select 2) select budgeted

Yeah I thought of that. If I had time I think there's something smart you could do here, but it would involve more complex UX/animations

What if you used both sides of the container (instead of just an outline). So on the left, is a radio button of sorts (could be a link icon in this specific example) that indicates linked/unlinked. On the right, use a text button for whether or not it's budgeted/not budgeted.pic.twitter.com/xxPWLA1NDl

Reminds me of an old UX Stack Exchange question of mine.https://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/3331/how-to-best-represent-a-togglebutton-representing-on-off-with-the-ability-to-b …

I assume that is indeterminate checkbox, right? Maybe show indeterminate grayed out, but with circle in the middle?

Okay, very bad idea: You know how most app users might now be aware of swiping left/right? Make the panels float to the middle with some leeway to left or right, and that entire label acts as the toggle switch.

I have the exacte same issue, for now I have used sections with 2 toggle that revert each others… Not very great but better than this Imo (I have spotted that a few times on iOS in settings app I think) Otherwise you could use SegmentedControl (http://facebook.github.io/react-native/docs/assets/SegmentedControlIOS/example.gif …)pic.twitter.com/2BfeFTyygo

Few ideas: - two steps, select first, then toggle the budgeted ones on another screen - flatten to 3 states via button bar - if perpendicular, 2 different lists.
