I like yarn, but just by being a competitor to npm it introduces a bunch of complexity that trips up people who follow instructions on one page to install deps (run yarn add ...) and later, forum posts (remove node_modules and run npm i) etc.

I dunno, I still think yarn tends to just work. You can still blow away node modules if someone tells you to. npm has gotten better but stuff like workspaces, etc easily offset any compat problems.

seems like it potentially also introduces a lot of new unknown ones tho? How many apps use webpack aliases, typescript paths? or depend on the filesystem as the source of truth?
