3 years ago, #Uyghur translator and poet Abduqadir Jüme disappeared into China’s internment camp system for Muslims. His translations include the Uyghur edition of Nobel laureate Mo Yan’s Red Sorghum—book cover below, along w a translation of one of Abduqadir’s poems. Pls RT. 1/4pic.twitter.com/h2x8KYU3hA

Chinese-Uyghur translators like Abduqadir Jüme have served as bridges between the two cultures. Among Abduqadir’s many translations, some were commissioned by the Chinese government. He’s no dissident. His only crime is having been born Uyghur. 2/4pic.twitter.com/L0aQ5urG3O

I met Abduqadir Jüme only a couple times, but he impressed me as a gentle, thoughtful, intelligent man. He is one of countless Uyghurs and others who have vanished into China’s camp/prison/forced labor system for Muslims. Journalists may want to ask Mo Yan to comment on the multi-year internment w/o charges (and now forced labor) of his translator into one of China’s major languages. And I'd ask translators to make some noise about the detention of our colleague, Abduqadir Jüme. #FreeAbduqadir 4/4pic.twitter.com/BSjkQDbYKM

Thank you @jlfreeman6 for translating and posting my brother’s poems and promoting his case! Yes, he had been locked up in the camp system since 2017. He is a poet and an evid translator. Therefore, he doesn’t need any forms of “job-training”. He should be released immediately!
