Something that I wish my parents and conservatives in general understood about my political ideals I was in high school when the longest war in US history started. The credit crash happened in my final year of college, and my APR went from 5% to 13%.

We were already in the great recession when I was graduating and trying to find my place in the world. The recession destroyed entry-level salaries, which has long-lasting effects on earning potential-- especially for women in tech.

I had so little money that I learned that compassion and empathy was more important than the stock market. That helping each other was the way to get through the uncertainty and pain.

And all I see from the GOP today is self-preservation and greed. It goes against everything that got me through a world that put my starting line half a mile back in the marathon (and I'm lucky that as a white woman in a cishet relationship, I was THAT close to it)

I can't be okay with a society that lives by the ideal of, "Fuck you, I got mine," because my lived-in experience is that it has never worked in the modern world. The only way I see as a path to success as a society is to say, "I'm fine. How can I help you?"
