No, not really. Turnout in the Alabama Senate race wasn’t spectacular. Effect of a lot of people who just weren’t willing to support Doug Jones’ opponent was a much bigger effect.

Alabama still has a D senator because he was elected to a three-year term, and it’s not expired yet.

It took a combination of it being a blue wave non presidential election year, a moderate dem candidate, and the Republican being a literal pedophile for the dem to win. If even one of those things had been different, we'd have a senator Roy Moore right now.

If Jeff Sessions had run for re-election in 2018, he’d have won comfortably. Jones and his campaign did a tremendous job in the special election, but Moore was the perfect candidate to run against, as were Todd Aiken and Richard Mourdock a few years ago. Candidates matter.

Jeff Sessions was still AG at the time of the special election and that election was to finish the term until 2020.

Didn’t he replace Roy Moore? That’s the reason.

We shouldn't forget that even with everything that was known about Roy Moore, a large majority of white voters, male and female, thought he would make a fine Senator from Alabama.

I did and am a conservative
